Recently opened on Selfridges’ iconic rooftop, alto by San Carlo confirms its status as one of the capital’s finest new Italian restaurants by announcing a one-night takeover on 27th June by seven of Italy’s most renowned chefs.
Gathered together by the acclaimed Italian fine enogastronomic consortium Identità Golose, these talents, with no less than seven Michelin stars between them, will offer guests the opportunity to experience an unforgettable culinary journey through the most contemporary takes on Italy’s regional flavours and gastronomy.
Against a backdrop of one of London’s most beautiful restaurants, the five-course Viaggio in Italia gastronomic extravaganza begins with Alessandro Negrini and Fabio Pisani of Milan’s two-Michelin starred Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia – a restaurant which has pioneenerd the recent culinary revolution in Italy – before moving to Florence for a flavour renaissance with world-famous Annie Féolde and chef de cuisine Alessandro Della Tommasina from three-Michelin star Enoteca Pinchiorri. The third destination on the menu is Rome, with Cristina Bowerman‘s cuisine that shook up Rome’s culinary tradition earning her a Michelin star at Glass Hostaria. The dinner will then head south to La Taverna del Capitano to immerse guests into the iconic citrusy and sea fragrances of Neapolitan riviera, brought to life by the one Michelin-starred Alfonso Caputo. The final destination is Sicily, where Netflix’s Chef’s Table pastry star Corrado Assenza of Caffè Sicilia brings the proceedings to a close with a dessert created out of his local flavoursome and sun-kissed produce.
The dinner will see this extraordinary brigade take up residency in alto‘s kitchen to showcase an exciting new approach to Italy’s cuisine with a menu which takes a radical step towards new culinary horizons.
Following the journey from north to south, the menu features Apulian cicerchie legumes puree with Valsassina cheese, smoked herring & fig must; Risotto with mazzancolle prawns, veal nervetti & liquorice powder; Rigatoni stuffed with artichokes alla romana, vignarola, bottarga & anchovy caviar; Snapper in lemon leaves & smoked provola with toasted raisins and Double fiordilatte cream with Bronte pistachios, gin & wild thyme English custard cream.
