Harrods began as a wholesale grocer and tea merchants in east London, first opening its doors in 1834. Since then, it has grown to become the world’s most famous department store, known for its unrivalled range of luxury merchandise.

As well as exclusive brands and myriad departments, one of Harrods’ most renowned attributes is its unparalleled service. The store continues to be guided by its philosophy of ‘anything is possible’ and, to this day, our customers remain at the heart of everything we do.

Harrods’ retail team prides itself on going the extra mile. Today, the sumptuous store interior amazes and delights customers as it always has done. Last year, Harrods underwent a huge transformation, unveiling its new Grand Entrance at the end of 2016. The regeneration project focused on restoring an original staircase, built in 1928. British-made copper cladding and lighting globes were installed on the listed staircase next to the escalator, and original glass was preserved, ensuring the entrance is flooded with natural light.

Also new in 2016 was Mini Superbrands. Mirroring the original womenswear Superbrands, Harrods’ new indoor boulevard of boutiques from the world’s best-known fashion brands makes shopping for childrenswear truly effortless. The Harrods team of buyers has curated collections from 150 brands; you’ll find the latest styles from fashion houses including Dior, Gucci, Loro Piana, Fendi and Mischka Aoki. Designers have created exclusive pieces for Mini Superbrands, including one-of-a-kind items from Dennis Basso, and dresses and accessories from Dior. Lifesize furry Fendi monsters, colouring tables and tablets loaded with games will ensure that children love the department.

For all the innovation and exclusivity, there are many visitors to Harrods who simply want to revel in the heritage of the store. The Food Halls, in particular, draw people from far and wide, as much for the art-nouveau décor as the exquisite food. Continuing its Chef of the Season focus, Harrods welcomed wellness expert Madeleine Shaw at the start of 2016, with Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin taking
the baton for the festive season.

With another year of investment and regeneration planned for 2017, including the launch of a groundbreaking in-store  wellness retreat, Harrods continues to redefine the concept of the luxury department store.
