Five minutes with the Founder | L.O.N.B
In this regular series, we take five minutes with the founders and CEO’s of our Brands of Tomorrow programme to focus on the personality and entrepreneurial motivation behind new British luxury brands, showcasing the individual behind successful new businesses. This month, we spoke with Reinhard Mieck, founder and CEO of L.O.N.B
Briefly describe your company
L.O.N.B. is a luxury leather goods brand, which uniquely merges luxury and function to revolutionise the life of the modern connoisseur.
Tell us the story of how you built your brand
We spent 3 years to develop a new standard of luxury leather goods craftsmanship, including our supply infrastructure in Italy. During those years, we have translated our design vision into a focused range of leather goods for men and women, all uniquely merging our signature aesthetic, intuitive functionality and inimitable craftsmanship in perfect harmony. In Spring 2017, we have launched L.O.N.B. with a flagship store in Mayfair and our e-commerce site, lonb.com, which ships to 40 countries worldwide. Since that time, we are building the brand with a connoisseur-focused marketing strategy.
Why did you choose to set up your business in the luxury sector?
Because I love craftsmanship and materials at the highest possible level, and want to cater to a connoisseur audience who appreciates the level of detailing of our products.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
That me and my partner are fully in charge of the company vision and the execution. We realise our own dream, not the dream of someone else.
What and/or who is your source of inspiration and motivation?
We both love things with a soul, which merge form and function in perfect harmony. As such, we take inspiration from creations from the 1960s, including Riva boats, Porsche 911s and Rolex tool watches. Our key motivations comes from our customers and the extraordinarily high expectations they have for the carefully selected objects they bring into their life.
If you could have any other job in the world what would it be?
I love to spend time with other consumer-focused businesses and other creators and help them sharpen their vision and translate this into a seamless execution centred around a unique product and customer experience.
If you could do something different in your career what would it be?
Where do you see yourself and your company in 10 years’ time?
By that time, L.O.N.B. will be a luxury power brand with global appeal. I will then still enjoy the ride.
What does success look like to you?
To do something meaningful and with purpose, spend time with people you like and respect, and delight the customer.
What advice do you have for any young entrepreneurs looking to start their own business?
Make sure that you have something to offer which does not exist. Protect your ideas well. And surround yourself with people who can help you bring your vision to life.
