I design backgammon boards, games, boxes and furniture. I have a collection that we sell through Harvey Nichols, Harrods and The Conran Shop, and half of our work is bespoke designs for clients. For these one-off commissions I use a mixture of techniques and materials – sketching and painting the designs, and often translating them in marquetry, hand-painted surfaces or engraved in semi-precious stones.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love translating people’s lives and stories into treasured objects. There is often so much thought and love involved, especially when they are made as gifts. I also love the variety of materials my designs enable me to work in, and working in the UK with an inspiring array of workshops, each specialising in a different material or skill set. Most of all I love approaching each commission or design brief through a different set of eyes, and taking the time to develop ideas specially for the client.
