Former Chief Executive, Smythson of Bond Street
Having trained with John Lewis and Fitch Retail Design, Sarah Elton joined Smythson of Bond Street in 1991. Appointed Managing Director two years later at the age of 29, Sarah started the expansion of Smythson out of Bond Street, first through concessions, then new stores, including a flagship in New York and an online store. Under her management new product groups such as handbags, and the Fashion Diary were introduced, so that Smythson managed to attract the young and fashionable again whilst retaining the cachet and custom of old money. Sarah led a management buyout in 1998 and, having proved itself in all new formats, the business was sold very successfully in May 2005.
