The Gleneagles Hotel
The Gleneagles® Hotel, just a one hour drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, is set in an 850 acre estate in the heart of Scotland. Renowned for its three championship golf courses, Gleneagles is the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup matches and hosts the annual Johnnie Walker Championship. All courses offer generous fairways, big greens, challenges for all handicaps and superb views of the surrounding countryside.
But sporting opportunities at Gleneagles extend far beyond golf. There are shooting and fishing schools – the shooting ground is based on a sporting layout, meaning that the paths of the clays simulate the flights of game birds and fly fishing tuition is given on nearby lochs. The Equestrian School, one the of world's finest equestrian facilities, provides coaching and hosts a variety of equestrian events. The newest addition to Gleneagles leisure facilities is a gundog school, where guests can learn how to handle trained gundogs in the field.
All weather tennis, swimming, croquet, cycling, off road driving and putting combine to offer year round activities to suit every taste and every level of ability.
The British School of Falconry at Gleneagles provides a range of different courses designed to suit all levels of experience. Guests interested in trying the sport can enjoy a 45-minute lesson where they handle a Harris hawk as they are introduced to the sport and taught the basic techniques.
A visit to the state of the art Spa at Gleneagles by ESPA is the ultimate rejuvenating experience, with its wide selection of powerful and highly effective ESPA treatments in the tranquil elegant space.
Gleneagles boasts four outstanding restaurants – guests can dine in the elegant surroundings of The Strathearn, or enjoy the relaxed informality of Mediterranean deli-style Deseo and the Dormy Clubhouse restaurants. And dinner in Scottish Chef of the Year, Andrew Fairlie’s coveted Two Michelin Star restaurant within the hotel is an experience not to be missed.
The 232 bedrooms are spacious and luxurious – they include 26 suites, 10 of which are found on the top floor of the hotel. As well as the novel, split-level Blue Tower Suite comprising two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a lounge, there are eight additional two-bedroom and a one-bedroom suite. Many make the most of their stunning views of the surrounding countryside and reflect its colours and textures in fabrics and furnishings.
