He shared observations about the consumer behaviour of China’s wealthy households, as well as talking about the perception of the UK in China as a powerhouse of creativity and design.

David Warren, HM Ambassador to Japan, spoke to Walpole members on 18th July 2011 at an Insight Lunch at The Ivy. In his speech, he shared a positive outlook for the recovery of the Japanese economy after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck earlier this year.

Walpole hosted the first Insight lunch of the year on Monday 18 May 2009 at new member restaurant, Roast. Guest speaker, Sir Richard Stagg KCMG CMG provided the 30 member guests with an insight into his role as High Commissioner and a view of the current business, economic and political affairs in India.

James Harding, Editor of The Times, spoke to Walpole Members at our second Insight Lunch of the year on 30th October 2008 at new member, Mosimann's. Guests enjoyed a culinary treat; the lunch menu designed and prepared by master chef Anton Mosimann himself. The event was the first free of charge Insight Lunch held for members and both the speaker and the venue prompted an outstanding response from members wishing to attend.

Over 70 members and guests attended the lunch at Pearson with Dame Marjorie Scardino, chief executive of international media and education group Pearson. Marjorie was chief executive of The Economist Group from 1992-96. She is also a non-executive director of Nokia Corporation and a member of various charitable and advisory boards, including The Carter Center, the V&A and the MacArthur Foundation.
