 | Walpole Awards 2008The Walpole Awards for Excellence 2008, in association with Barclays Wealth, were held to honour individuals and companies who in the views of our illustrious team of judges, members and the industry achieved the pinnacle of excellence across seven categories including luxury, design, international, overseas, emerging and online talent. The Banqueting House made for a wonderful setting with presentations taking place under the grand Rubens ceiling, with the more intimate candlelit undercroft the setting for the reception where guests enjoyed Laurent Perrier Champagne and a delightful selection of canapés from the Admirable Crichton. The awards which highlighted Britain’s position as a hothouse of creative talent and encompassed up and coming designers and world class brands, were hosted by the delightful Richard Wilson and filmed by the Luxury Channel, CNBC. With more categories than ever before and talent bursting at the seams, the judges who included the likes of Stephen Fry and Richard Caring, this year worked harder than ever to select winners from the short list. At this years awards a medal of excellence was also presented to Dame Vivienne Westwood, whose contribution to British fashion and design has been phenomenal, making her one of the most influential fashion designers in the world and a true British icon.
