Brand Snapshot | Conran strengthens global position with first shop in Korea
The Conran Shop, the leading lifestyle retailer founded by Sir Terence Conran in 1973, has partnered with Lotte Shopping, the biggest retailer in Korea, to open its first Korean store in late 2019.
The new shop will be its 11th global location, adding Seoul to a list of cities that includes London, Paris, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Nagoya and Tokyo.
Opening in 2019, the new 2,314 square-metre shop in Seoul’s thriving Gangnam district will introduce the curated Conran lifestyle to a Korean audience. The opening of The Conran Shop’s Korean store will ensure that its international reputation for modern living will not only remain relevant but will also continue to evolve.
Sir Terence Conran commented, “I have always believed that good design and well-made products have a very simple power to improve the quality of life for people. These characteristics seem to be in the very DNA of the Korean design aesthetic and as Provost of the Royal College of Art I saw first-hand the considerable efforts being put in to training its design students. I am very excited by this partnership and look forward to seeing how the trademark Conran style evolves in a new market and influences our global brand.”
The Conran Shop’s legacy and recent successes stem from its vibrant offering of classic and contemporary designs, from mid-century masters to up-and-coming talents. The Conran Shop continues to pioneer a complete lifestyle offering, with dynamic spaces that combine furniture, lighting, art, electronics, personal accessories and clothing with places to eat and drink.
This opening of the Korean store will renew The Conran Shop’s relevance in the global market and bring important insights to its stores across the globe. Thanks to The Conran Shop’s internationally-renowned eye for design, new trends in Korea will find a place in homes around the world.
Hugh Wahla, Chief Executive Officer at Conran Retail and Brand Holdings, commented, “We are very excited to be partnering with Lotte Group in what we expect will be a long and productive relationship in one of the most exciting markets in the world.”
