Brand Snapshot | National Caviar Day with Exmoor Caviar
The 18th of July is National Caviar Day, celebrate with Walpole member, Exmoor Caviar and their sustainable British caviar.
Exmoor Caviar was established by Kenneth Benning in 2010. After many years of working with caviar farms across Europe and beyond he made his dream a reality by launching the UK’s first British Caviar farm.
In 1324, King Edward II decreed the sturgeon a royal fish and any found within the realm were deemed property of the monarch. Prior to starting on his pioneering British caviar journey, special permission was sought from HM The Queen to farm the royal fish. Exmoor Caviar received a letter from Buckingham Palace confirming that Her Majesty would not extend her royal prerogative and that the sturgeon at the Exmoor Caviar farm would indeed be their own.
Exmoor Caviar set out to produce a British product of such high calibre that it would satisfy the most discerning of palates. Today limited-edition batches of Exmoor Caviar now rival the farmed caviar imported into the UK and can be seen on Michelin-starred menus throughout the UK, currently supplying no less than 65 Michelin Stars.
The Exmoor Caviar farm is situated at the foothills of the Exmoor National Park where 40 million litres of fresh Devonshire water, naturally filtered through slate, shale and sandstone, pass through the farm every day. The sturgeon fish are allowed to grow at the pace that nature intended in this fresh cool mineral water. The clean and natural delicate flavours of the caviar are enhanced by locally harvested Cornish Sea Salt.
With sustainability and quality as its core values, Exmoor Caviar also supplies sturgeon meat, both fresh and smoked alongside their caviar offering, ensuring that no part of the precious fish is wasted. The team at Exmoor Caviar have also jointly developed a globally patented caviar oil which is extracted during the production process for use in nutritional, nutraceutical and cosmeceutical applications. Exmoor Caviar is therefore a luxurious British delicacy that is not only rare and exquisite, but also natural and sustainable.
Exmoor Caviar were welcomed into the Walpole family as a member of the Brands of Tomorrow Programme in 2017 and are now proud Walpole Members.
