Brand Snapshot | Votary x Jess Glynne at BRIT Awards

Votary Rose Geranium and Apricot Cleansing Oil featured as part of Jess Glynne’s performance at the 2019 BRIT Awards.

Jess’s song Thursday opens with the lyrics “I don’t wear makeup on Thursday, I’m sick of covering up.” Choreographer Lynne Page and Set Designer Es Devlin decided to created a response to this and to the growing phenomenon of low self-esteem and depression among teenage girls.

Es Devlin said: “40% of girls who spend over five hours per day on social media show symptoms of depression. By removing every trace of their makeup live on stage this evening, Jess, H.E.R. and the 70 girls and women who perform with them, make a gesture which we hope will resonate and raise awareness.”

Performers have understood the power of a cleansing oil to remove heavy make-up for decades. The Votary Rose Geranium and Apricot Cleansing Oil has gained cult status amongst beauty editors and insiders and the high profile private clients who rely upon it to remove every scrap of stage make-up and create a glowing natural base.

Lynne Page commented: “We wanted to be brave and show a stage full of clean, naked faces on live TV to say enough is enough. To do that I needed a way that I could rehearse the removal over and over again in rehearsal and not hurt our performers’ skin. I have been using Votary Cleansing Oil every night for the last two years and knew very well how efficient it is at getting every scrap of make-up off in a simple way. It has allowed me to pull off Es’s and Jess’s vision. Thank you Votary.”

Charlotte Semler, Co-founder,Votary added: “We are incredibly proud that Votary Cleansing Oil was chosen to perform its beautifully simple function on such an international and prestigious stage. It is our firm belief that the cleansing stage of any skincare routine is the most important. No wipes, no petrochemicals, no animal testing or animal derived ingredients – a 100% natural cleansing oil is the the simplest, fastest way to beautifully clean skin.”
