One of the finest luxury leather goods manufacturers in Great Britain, Ettinger continue to set the bench-mark in British luxury for authenticity and craftsmanship. Founded in 1934 they remain the only leather goods manufacturers with a Royal Warrant to HRH The Prince of Wales.
Increasingly renowned by customers around the world for its distinctive range of colourful wallets and purses, Ettinger also handcrafts an extensive portfolio of leather bags and accessories at its factory in the midlands. Founded by Gerry Ettinger over eighty years ago, many items draw their inspiration from earlier design classics and by combining this with the needs of today’s lifestyle, Ettinger’s leather goods reflect a timeless elegance that endures as fashions fade.
Rooted in English leather-making tradition, Ettinger started out making leather luggage and small leather goods in London’s leather quarter in Clerkenwell. Back in the 1930s there were still dozens of very specialised leather workshops and factories supplying the very best department stores of their time and Ettinger’s reputation for design and quality meant it quickly acquired the most prestigious clients. Gerry Ettinger’s natural ability with languages and travel also meant that many of these clients were foreign department stores as far afield as Canada and Japan.
Always ahead of his time, Gerry enjoyed finding and developing new products to suit the style and whims of similarly adventurous clients. He made himself a smaller, slimmer attaché case, which he found much smarter than the bulkier versions of the time and this case is still used by his son Robert today and has become the company’s most sought-after attaché. Even though Ettinger has never stopped making these classic attachés, there has been a resurgence of interest in them in recent years so the company has recently launched a new bespoke service for its attaché cases in Fortnum & Mason, London, and on its website.
The current appeal timeless elegance has also helped Ettinger gain attention from the world of interior design, with several critically acclaimed architects and designers calling on its leather expertise to make singular objects for private homes, hotels and yachts. As such Ettinger has collaborated with fellow Walpole member, Echlin, to provide bags an accessories for the interior styling of a house in Holland Park.
In 2017 Ettinger is celebrating its 20th year as a Royal Warrant holder to HRH The Prince of Wales. This very special honour allows the company to carry the Prince of Wales cipher of three feathers on all its products. Having a Royal Warrant is a great privilege and has certainly contributed to establishing Ettinger’s reputation as a quality leather accessories brand around the world. From Japan, to Dubai, South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, the USA and Europe, Ettinger accessories can be found in leading luxury stores in over 30 countries.
