Movers & Shakers: Hamilton & Inches Announces new Chief Executive Officer

Silversmith Hamilton & Inches has announced Victoria Houghton as its new Chief Executive Officer. Houghton will lead a new era for Hamilton & Inches, reigniting its rich heritage of holding the Royal Warrant as silversmiths to Her Majesty the Queen for more than 120 years, whilst introducing a new contemporary style to the brand. She will take over a period of new stewardship from Stephen Paterson formerly CEO of the business who stepped down after 40 years of excellent service. 

Houghton will bring the business, creative buying and strategic management expertise she gained from her previous role of non-executive for Hamilton & Inches since June 2018 to her new role. Houghton’s Honours degree in Cultural and Historical Art, as well as her A grade certificate in Gemology is welcomed by the board to preserve the rich Scottish heritage of Hamilton & Inches.

The appointment of Houghton is part of a wider strategy by Hamilton & Inches to double turnover to £20 million over the next five years. Delivering an unparalleled customer experience is important to Houghton to succeed in the challenging retail landscape. An experiential retail approach will be implemented in the George Street showroom, in addition to an investment to renovate the facia and internal aesthetics. This investment is also part of Hamilton & Inches’ campaign to champion Edinburgh as one of the leading shopping destinations in the world.

Hamilton & Inches plans to maintain a leading position in the fine jewellery market by further establishing partnerships with the finest, globally acclaimed brands in the industry. Developing the watch offering of Hamilton & Inches with partners Rolex, Patek Philippe and Bremont, will also play an integral part of the strategy and each partner has endorsed the new appointment of Houghton as CEO.

Hamilton & Inches will continue to develop their bespoke design service in the traditional Edinburgh workshop, above the George Street showroom, to meet the growing market for fine jewellery and engagement rings. Hamilton & Inches are proud of their talented, highly-skilled craftsman who curate contemporary pieces using traditional techniques.

Houghton has an impressive track record as a retail and business leader, which includes initiating negotiations to take on the country-wide franchise for Next in Romania and firmly establishing it with four profitable stores in Bucharest. Houghton also held the role of Fashion and Accessories Buyer at Next plc, River Island and M&S, and relocated to Bangkok, Thailand under the position of Product Developer for Next plc. Houghton was also appointed by Q5 Business Management Consultants working with Burberry on their strategic business transformation and change management project.
