Spring Snapshot | The London Philharmonic Orchestra
The London Philharmonic Orchestra has an eventful spring ahead with its final Royal Festival Hall concerts of the season, rehearsals beginning for its annual residency at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and the glorious Spring Gala.
On 1 May, the Orchestra’s Gala, ‘Spring is in the Air’, returns to the elegant setting of Whitehall’s Banqueting House. Guests will enjoy a Champagne Taittinger reception in the vaulted Undercroft before entering the Main Hall, with its renowned adorned Rubens’ ceiling and spectacular Italianate architecture, for a sumptuous three-course dinner. The Orchestra’s Principal Conductor & Artistic Advisor, Vladimir Jurowski will conduct an exclusive, spring-themed performance with special guest artists, violinist Nicola Benedetti and soprano Miah Persson.
As the 2018/19 London season at Royal Festival Hall comes to an end, the Orchestra moves to Glyndebourne to begin its annual residency, presenting world-class operatic productions in the heart of the Sussex countryside. Featured in four of the six operas at Glyndebourne, the Orchestra will perform in Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust, Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Massenet’s Cendrillon and Dvořák’s Rusalka. The LPO has a long and illustrious history at Glyndebourne, having performed there for over 50 years. Surrounded by beautiful gardens in which the audience can picnic during the long dinner interval, Glyndebourne remains one of the most enchanting experiences of the English summer season.
