Walpole Collaborations | Ettinger x Rory Dobner

Walpole member Ettinger is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, and in celebration the brand is delighted to unveil a collection of beautiful limited-edition notebooks, as well as ‘Ettinger Bespoke’, its first multi-product bespoke service.

The leather-covered notebooks are a collaboration between Ettinger and fellow Walpole member, the renowned British artist, Rory Dobner, and are created in support of QEST, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, the charitable arm of the Royal Warrant Holders’ Association.

In a nod to the 85th anniversary, only 85 notebooks have been made and each one is clearly numbered 1-85 to make them truly unique pieces to be treasured for years to come. The paper notebooks inside are crafted by the Royal Warrant-holding printers and bookbinders Barnard & Westwood, and the leather cover is illustrated by Rory Dobner.

The illustrations feature exquisite Rory Dobner drawings of his idiosyncratic character, ‘Nigel the Owl’. Striding out, bedecked with a bowler hat and an umbrella firmly under the arm (always be prepared for rain in England!), he is a fitting nod to Robert Ettinger’s father and company founder, Gerry Ettinger. Nigel is sporting an outfit that Gerry himself might well have worn during Ettinger’s early years and he was never seen without his handcrafted umbrella under arm.

On the inside of the notebook’s leather cover, illustrated pocket watches hang from fob chains over the Ettinger and HRH The Prince of Wales Royal Warrant logos, with the watch hands poignantly set at 8 and 5 o’clock to acknowledge the company’s 85th anniversary.

The notebooks retail at £265 on the Ettinger website (ettinger.co.uk) from 11th July; for every notebook sold, 15% of the proceeds will go to the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST).

‘ETTINGER BESPOKE’
‘Ettinger Bespoke’ is a very exciting launch for the brand. For the first time in its 85-year history, customers can now create their very own bespoke Ettinger accessory from a wide selection of options. Starting with the product choice – including wallets, card cases and key rings – they can choose the outside leather style, colour and stitch colour, then the inside leather style, colour and stitch colour, as well as a choice of two Ettinger linings, and whether they want the Ettinger logo and the monogramming in silver, gold or blind emboss. The finished product is then delivered from the Ettinger factory to the customer in six to eight weeks. This new service will be available in the Ettinger London Showroom, by appointment (tel: 020 8877 1616, email: info@ettinger.co.uk) and at Ettinger Trunk Shows held in-store in its international stockists.

In this very special anniversary year, it is wonderful to be able to launch a really beautiful and highly creative, limited-edition piece which I hope will be treasured for years to come by those lucky enough to purchase one and to see the launch of our first ever bespoke service. I think my father would have been delighted with both, and particularly amused by ‘Nigel’ striding forth! I have high hopes for the bespoke service as this is something our customers have been requesting for a while and it is good news that we are now able to offer it to create truly personal ‘Ettingers’.”
