Over the coming weeks, you'll be seeing Walpole in a selection of your favourite publications. As part of our ongoing Luxury in the Making campaign – supporting our recent study demonstrating the beneficial impact of the British luxury sector on the wider UK economy – this series of advertisements showcases the work of artisans in the act of creation at their places of work around the country. Photographed by Sam Walton, the brands featured are all Walpole members: Johnstons of Elgin textiles in Scotland, Edward Green shoes in Northampton, and Savoir bedmakers and Kathryn Sargent bespoke tailoring in London.
Produced in association with Frontier Economics, the research within our Luxury in the Making study found that companies operating within British luxury now support 454,000 jobs, directly and indirectly, across a range of roles from design and digital, to high-tech manufacturing and heritage crafts.
Other notable findings in the study include that the UK’s luxury sector now contributes £81bn a year to the UK economy, that it helps raise £25.5bn in tax receipts for the Exchequer and that the luxury sector’s economic contribution (equivalent to 3.7% of GDP) has grown an impressive 69% over the last five years to 2022.
The advertisements, designed by Walpole partner Nous, have already appeared on the front page of the Financial Times, and will appear in the British editions of ELLE Decoration, ELLE, Men's Health, Wallpaper*, Country Living, Esquire and Harper's Bazaar over the coming months.
