Nerida Fraiman is a London based milliner whose designs are worn by some of the most beautiful and celebrated heads in Britain and across the world, from digital influencers like Dina Tokio, with 1.3m followers on Instagram, to fashion establishment icons Stella Tennant and Jordan Dunn as well as British and international royalty – Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have both worn Nerida Fraiman hats at Ascot this year. Her range spans fascinators, occasion wear, turbans and luxury casual felts, and has featured in Vogue, Vogue Italia and Vogue Arabia, Harper’s Bazaar, Town and Country, Tatler and more.
After an MA at the Royal College of Art, Nerida honed her craft working for Philip Treacy where she learned to ‘really use [her] eyes, to look at the line of the hat and see how it looks on’. Her focus for her eponymous label is to begin the design process ‘with a hunt for different materials – sometimes the simplest materials can yield the most exciting results’. As she says, ‘I like to play with the materials – I like to push them and evolve new techniques of working with them. From there I experiment with form.’
One of the members of Walpole’s 2017 Crafted programme, Nerida’s mission is to continue to make each of her clients look the very best she can, whether a seasoned hat-wearer, someone who enjoys the ritual of dressing up for the Season, or simply a woman who covers her hair for cultural reasons – ‘my hats are for everyone’ – and to make her headwear more widely available internationally as well as pushing herself to new challenges, collaborating with noteworthy brands.
