Tell us what you do?
We design and create incredibly innovative and unique headwear of all descriptions, ranging from very wearable yet highly luxurious daywear hats such as Trilbies and Panamas, to more avant-garde sculptural pieces, which can be found in the window displays at Harrods and in the V&A. Each piece is made by hand within our studio, which is set in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.
From a business perspective, it’s vital to successfully bridge the gap between the commercial and the creative. For example, we will work on creative cross-sector collaborations with other Walpole brands, yet always ensure there are clear tangible objectives and benefits behind the collaboration, be it to raise brand profile in a specific market or drive sales.
What do you love most about your job?
Working with my team (and my cocker spaniel who accompanies me in the studio every day!).
In particular, I love working with my design team, we work really closely together in terms of deciding on trends and themes for the collections. The creative process is always really enjoyable, and it’s satisfying when you see the hard work pay off and you see the collections looking beautiful in Fortnum & Mason or Harrods, or you see a prestigious person wearing one of your designs on the front page of a magazine.
