A Summer of Luxury | Holiday with… Backes & Strauss’ Vartkess Knadjian
This summer, Vartkess Knadjian, CEO of British luxury watch house Backes & Strauss, has enjoyed a staycation in Switzerland, ‘Sapiens’ by Yuval Noah Harari, and a very special Appointment with His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent…
What is your favourite holiday destination?
I have to say that I absolutely love our staycations in Switzerland. My wife and I enjoy a peaceful life in the picturesque village of Coppet near Geneva, where we are spoilt with beautiful views of Lac Leman, the mountains and the growing number of vineyards.
What is your top tip for surviving the summer heat in style?
Wear diamonds; the best conductor of heat!
Have you ever had a ‘lightbulb’ moment related to your business or career while taking some downtime?
Even though I love my quiet life in Geneva, my ultimate source of inspiration comes from my regular visits to London to visit my children and the House of Backes & Strauss. Its youthful dynamism, for example, inspired the creation of our most recent Miss Victoria collection.
What is your holiday read this year?
Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari was definitely a page-turner and now I cannot put down Homo Deus either!
Your favourite al fresco drinking/dining spot?
Our very own terrace in Coppet, where my family and I enjoy a glass of wine along with our dinner, after which I also light my cigar (provided my daughter is not around ?).
A Royal Appointment
This summer, Backes & Strauss was delighted to announce its partnership with His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. Prince Michael has been interested to learn of the rich history of Backes & Strauss – the world’s oldest diamond company founded in 1789 – and the unique skills required to make their very high-end timepieces.
This partnership reflects HRH Prince Michael’s continued support of the excellence in British craftsmanship. In addition to visiting key markets and participating in special events, Prince Michael will help to design a limited collection of watches, which will be available towards the end of 2019.
