Where will you be holidaying this year?
For us, summer always means the Mediterranean. We’re going “back” to Sicily for a couple of weeks with the children, to see family and friends, and enjoy the food, colours and smells we miss so much when we’re in London. There’s so much our kids still haven’t seen or don’t remember… this year we want to concentrate on the south west of the island with its fantastic sandy beaches and Greek archaeological sites and then we’ll be heading off to Greece to experience one of our new stunning seafront villas in the amazing nature reserve of Alonissos.
What is your ‘must-have’ item to pack in your suitcase?
Goggles for all the family - we love swimming and snorkelling.
Where is your favourite al fresco drinking/dining spot?
The outdoor dining area of Sighilli, one of our villas in the Vendicari Nature reserve, from which you see the flamingos migrating and lots of other birds, while dining with the wine from their vineyards and nibbling on their almonds. Pure bliss.
What is your holiday read this year?
I’ve packed a great biography of Alexander the Great which I’d like to read again. Huw will be reading about the life of Oleg Gordievsky, a KGB agent who spied for MI6 at the height of the Cold War.
Have you ever had a ‘lightbulb’ moment related to your business or career while taking some downtime?
Our first-ever lightbulb moment that led us to found The Thinking Traveller came to us during some downtime watching the sparks fly from the peak of Stromboli!
