As the outgoing CEO of the world-famous Fortnum & Mason, Ewan Venters has been instrumental in the brand’s success over the past eight years: under his leadership the store has achieved record sales and profits, as well as expanded into new territories. In today’s Power List profile, we asked Ewan what it means to be named one of the 50 Most Influential People in British Luxury, as we turn our attention this week to the ‘Legends’ on the List.
An experienced, focused and highly motivated CEO with outstanding leadership and visionary skills, Ewan Venters has led the famous Piccadilly destination to a succession of major achievements during his eight years in post. Under Ewan’s leadership, Fortnum’s has recorded record sales and profits, and have also expanded beyond their historic London home into new locations including prestigious stores in Royal Exchange, Heathrow Terminal 5, St Pancras Station and Hong Kong. Ewan has been passionate about the creation of innovative products and takes pride in promoting the Fortnum & Mason brand worldwide.
What does it mean to you to be named a Walpole 2020 Power List winner?
It’s a great honour to be named a Walpole 2020 Power List winner – being recognised by industry peers and an organisation as prestigious and impactful as Walpole is incredibly meaningful.
Why do you think you were named on the List this year?
You’d have to ask the judging panel!
But as both a GREAT Ambassador and CEO of Fortnum’s – I’m incredibly passionate about what I do; I love food, I love bringing people together, I love retail and hospitality, and I love making a difference – and it’s fair to say, I’ve been somewhat vocal this year so perhaps that has something to do with it.
The second-annual Walpole Power List, naming 2020’s 50 Most Influential People in British Luxury - and held in association with Investec - has been revealed. Released to mark the day the 19th British Luxury Awards would have taken place, The Power List celebrates the inspirational individuals – the 50 Most Influential People in British Luxury – within Walpole member brands who, despite enormous challenges throughout 2020, have continued to steer the sector to success.
