It’s a double celebration for the Dorchester Collection’s Julia Record this year, as she was not only lauded in PR Week’s 2020 Power Book as number one in the luxury hospitality sector – she’s also been named as a ‘Storyteller’ in Walpole’s Power List. Read on for more.
With over 30 years of communications experience, 25 of which on worldwide campaigns, Julia Record has specialised in the luxury, lifestyle and travel sectors. She is currently the global director of communications and partnerships for Dorchester Collection, a position she has held for 10 years. Julia’s responsibilities include all aspects of comms including social media and strategic brand partnerships.
In addition, she has held senior corporate roles based in three continents including global vice president of communications for Kerzner International (One&Only Resorts, which she launched, and Atlantis) and has headed up worldwide comms for Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, The Savoy Group and Thistle Hotels.
Julia was included in PR Week’s 2020 Power Book as number one in the luxury hospitality sector.
What does it mean to you to be named a Walpole 2020 Power List winner?
Walpole is synonymous with creative talent and meaningful connections, so to be included in such a prestigious list during such a tumultuous year is indeed an honour. To contribute to the Walpole collective voice supporting the luxury sector not only strengthens individual brands but also provides purpose at a time when cohesion and strategic alignment have never been so important.
Why do you think you were named on the List this year?
Voted the number one comms expert in luxury hospitality by PR Week in 2020, I have led Dorchester Collection’s content strategy in lockdown with emotionally compelling and purpose-driven storytelling.
The second-annual Walpole Power List, naming 2020’s 50 Most Influential People in British Luxury - and held in association with Investec - has been revealed. Released to mark the day the 19th British Luxury Awards would have taken place, The Power List celebrates the inspirational individuals – the 50 Most Influential People in British Luxury – within Walpole member brands who, despite enormous challenges throughout 2020, have continued to steer the sector to success.
