The Walpole Power List

Innovators: Joost de Kruiff, General Manager, Home Grown

"We have been pioneers for our entrepreneurial ecosystem and have seen an opportunity in this “new normal”. As our business was forced to physically close alongside the rest of the country, we had to rapidly pivot our member engagement model by offering our community more than 100 virtual online events since March." Our final Power List interview of the week features Joost, the Managing Director of Home Grown, the members' club for entrepreneurial pioneers. Here he shares how he and his team managed to successfully pivot their business into a digital offering when the club had to close.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE NAMED A WALPOLE 2020 POWER LIST WINNER?

Being named a Walpole 2020 Power list winner is an amazing recognition, not just for me but for the entire team, a true acknowledgment of all their hard work, resilience and dedication throughout this challenging year. As General Manager of private members’ club Home Grown, I have been working hard to support our community of entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders. 2020 has been a year of turbulence and enforced change, with many members of our quintessentially British club having their lives completely change. Home Grown is here to support the community and build long-lasting relationships for the future.

WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE NAMED ON THE LIST THIS YEAR?

We have been pioneers for our entrepreneurial ecosystem and have seen an opportunity in this “new normal”. As our business was forced to physically close alongside the rest of the country, we had to rapidly pivot our member engagement model by offering our community more than 100 virtual online events since March. From keynote international speakers, pitching events, leadership talks and wellbeing workshops, our extensive program of events has allowed us to not only support our existing Home Grown community but has also enabled us to attract new members.
