The Walpole Power List

Legends: Simon Cundey, Managing Director, Henry Poole

In today's special double issue of Walpole Power List Legends we first give you an interview with Simon Cundey, MD of Savile Row tailors Henry Poole & Co., who have been offering the very best in fine British tailoring since 1806. Here Simon shares with us how important it is to be a champion of British craft, and how he has been doing so for the past 30 years.

The Walpole Power List Legends: Simon Cundey, Managing Director, Henry Poole

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE NAMED A WALPOLE 2020 POWER LIST WINNER?

Since Henry Poole joined and was one of the founder members of Walpole in 1992, it has been fantastic to see how the Walpole group has become a captain for, and voice of, the British luxury industry. We have enjoyed working on many projects with some of the members over the years as well. I feel honoured to be selected as a Legend of Walpole 2020, especially in a very difficult year of trade. Let’s hope we get back to some normality in the new year, and a return to travel for us and our clients so that they can continue to enjoy our British luxury brands.

WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE NAMED ON THE LIST THIS YEAR?

Maybe its my belief in, and championing of, the craft of British tailoring and textiles in my 30-odd years of service at Henry Poole. We have a quality that is sort after world-over . This comes back to the heritage of the global word of Savile Row, which I am passionate to maintain.

Perhaps it is also because of my work as the chair of the Golden Shears Competition. In our trade it is known as the Oscars of the tailoring world. I look forward to seeing the all members in some venue one day soon.
