Corporate finance consultant turned whisky scientist, Dhavall Gandhi was the whiskymaker for The Macallan single malt whisky before joining The Lakes Distillery to define the house style and formulate their whisky strategy. An expert in whisky maturation (particularly Sherry casks), Gandhi practices “holistic whisky-making” by applying a vast array of novel approaches and pioneering techniques. His creative influences range from a spectrum of domains – art, mathematics, perfumery, and winemaking to name a few. According to the Whisky Magazine, “If whisky is an art... this man is the artist relishing his palette.”
What does it mean to you to be named a Walpole Power List winner?
This came to be as a complete surprise! To be named on the Power List alongside illustrious colleagues from the British luxury sector is very humbling indeed. It feels great that the work we are doing at The Lakes Distillery is being recognized by such an important platform. Thank you so much to the Walpole team for this honour.
Why do you think you were named on the List this year?
Our vision is to create one of the world’s leading Single Malt whiskies in an area that is traditionally not associated with making whisky. Creating a compelling luxury product takes diversity of thought and influences not just from within the world of whisky, but out with it as well. With our relentless pursuit of excellence, I hope to express new ideas, thoughts and emotions through the language of whisky.
