Walpole's Crafted: Makers of the Exceptional programme was
founded in 2007 to enable small craft companies to develop
their business skills. The programme connected a new generation
of skilled makers with luxury brands, promoting the craft
component of luxury in a contemporary and sustainable way
through mentorship and a series of workshops. After 10 incredible
years nurturing Britain's talented artisans, Crafted: Makers of
The Exceptional will no longer run in its current format.
We will announce our next initiative supporting the sector in due course.

Aiveen Daly
Aiveen Daly is a specialist upholstery studio in London designing and making for the world’s finest interiors. Working largely to commission, the studio has developed a rich palette of details which can be applied to walls, wardrobe doors, furniture and accessories. Luxurious embellishment techniques include fabric manipulation and pleating, specialist leather work, hand beading and embroidery. It is the commitment to quality and meticulous attention to detail that sets this work apart. Aiveen Daly regularly collaborates with some of the most renowned interior designers and architects across the globe. As well as bespoke commissions there is an edited collection of made-to-order furniture and accessories to choose from. The prestigious client list includes the Langham Hotel Hong Kong, the Mandarin Oriental London, Gansevoort hotel New York, Candy & Candy, Finchatton, 1508 and Martin Kemp Design.
Ana de Costa
Based in London and Folkestone, The house of Ana de Costa specialises in handcrafted bespoke pieces of jewellery and objet d'art, working directly with private clients. At the core of the House are Ana’s key values, these are to use exceptional gemstones, to offer outstanding design and champion luxury British Craftsmanship. Her style has redefined the way fine jewellery is worn and perceived. This combination of British craftsmanship and avant-garde design has meant that Ana's work is regularly featured in Vogue, W Magazine and Vanity Fair. Her work is also collected and commissioned by private clients, including movie stars and a range of international Royal families.
Hugh Miller
Hugh Miller is an award-winning designer and applied artist, specialising in studio furniture in wood. Hugh trained as an architect, and sees his work as small pieces of architecture, where the concept is embedded in the intricacy of the detail. Hugh's pieces are designed for the connoisseur collector - those searching for the highest quality in design and making above all other considerations. Hugh’s work is based on a set of design principles, developed during his Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship in Japan in 2015. Made in British elm, Japanese bamboo, and brass, Hugh’s work explores contrast: between texture and smoothness; between hidden and visible; between plane and lath; and between lightness and solidity. These contrasts illuminate the duality of Japanese and Western cultural influences that underpin his work.
Isatu Hyde
Isatu Hyde makes functional pottery including tableware, plant pots, jars and vases. Following the completion of degree in Product Design and then a 3-year traditional studio apprenticeship in wheel-thrown pottery, Isatu makes functional tableware and home wares from her studio in North West London. Inspired by ancient forms and materials from around the globe, her work often references artefacts and designs from either ancient or indigenous civilisations and traditions. Isatu believes firmly in the importance of beauty and ceremony in and around the home, and is deeply committed to the pursuit of that particular beauty associated with using an object. The majority of her work is made on the potter’s wheel and glazed using carefully developed glazes that are made from raw ingredients such a quartz, china clay and natural oxides.
Miriam Hanid
Miriam Hanid is a Chasing and Repoussé Artist, Silversmith and Engraver. Miriam is best known for her distinctive sculptural silver, which includes functional and purely decorative pieces, most of which is inspired by water, movement and the natural world. Using her signature techniques of chasing and engraving she creates deceptively simple organic and tactile shapes together with more complex and detailed vessels, centrepieces and tableware. Many of the objects that Miriam designs are the result of commissions and she enjoys the process of working with a client to bring their visual ideas to life. She has created bespoke silverware for individuals and collectors as well as for the Victoria & Albert Museum, Eton College, the Goldsmiths Company and the National Museum of Wales among others. A commission for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, 60 years later than her great grandfather’s two commissions for Her Majesty in 1952, has been a career high point.
Nerida Fraiman
Nerida Fraiman is a designer and manufacturer of luxury hats and turbans under her own eponymous label. Her signature style plays with elegant sculptural forms and flattering feminine softness. From magnificent statement headwear at Royal Ascot to versatile urban turbans in on-trend fabrics, her focus is on wearability, quality and enduring style. Constructed from the very best quality materials, each hat is beautifully hand-stitched to exceptional standards under her guidance at her light-filled London atelier. With an MA from the Royal College of Art followed by an extensive background of traditional fine millinery and accessory manufacturing techniques mastered at Philip Treacy and the Opera Bastille, Paris, Nerida’s approach is sensitive to the spirit of our times. Nerida Fraiman presents many hundreds of hats each year, alongside an exclusive bespoke service for royalty and international clients.
