As a part of Walpole Culture Month, Walpole hosted a member event at Brown's Hotel in London's Mayfair to celebrate the launch of Dylan Jones's new memoir, These Foolish Things. Prior to joining The Standard just under a year ago, Jones served as Editor-in-Chief of British GQ for 22 years. During this time, he evolved the magazine into both the country's leading men's publication and the most-awarded title in the UK, receiving over eighty accolades. A former columnist for the Guardian, the Independent and the Mail On Sunday, he was awarded an OBE for services to publishing in 2012. In his new memoir, These Foolish Things, Jones traces from his peripatetic childhood and late adolescence in 1970s London to his award-winning tenure at British GQ.
After coffee and pastries, members took their seats for a conversation between Walpole CEO Helen Brocklebank and Jones, as he offered fascinating insights on the changing media landscape, his highlights from his time at Condé Nast and why London's pull as an international cultural centre must be preserved.
