Josiah Wedgwood: The Founding father of British luxury?

Monday 18th October | 6.30pm - 8.30pm
The River Room at The Savoy, London

Walpole members: You are invited to join Tristram Hunt, author, broadcaster and Director of the V&A, at The Savoy on 18th October, for a discussion on Tristram's latest book, Radical Potter: Wedgwood and the Transformation of Britain.

Considered by many to be the founding father of British luxury, Josiah Wedgwood’s story is one of astonishing entrepreneurship, manufacturing enterprise, marketing savvy, ground-breaking invention and exquisite artistry. Not only was he one of Britain’s most outstanding business leaders – Hunt calls him 18th-century Britain’s Steve Jobs -  but he was also a man of huge conviction, not least in his opposition to the Atlantic slave trade. Radical Potter places Wedgwood in the context of the rapid economic and social changes during his lifetime that helped make his success possible, helping lay the foundation on which generations of Walpole members are built.
