Cliveden House is a privately owned 5 Red Star award-winning hotel, and sister to the world-renowned Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa in Hampshire. The hotel’s story is one of over 350 years of powerful personalities, iconic parties and scandalous affairs. Built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a gift to his mistress, Cliveden House has exuded intrigue and glamour throughout its illustrious history. In 1961, Cliveden’s story turned intriguing when John Profumo met Christine Keeler in the outdoor pool, thus igniting the biggest political scandal in British history: The Profumo Affair. Enriched with antique furniture and period features, Cliveden has stayed true to its roots whilst also providing a luxurious setting to rest, meet and play. Set in 376 acres of National Trust grounds, this Grade I listed stately home blends the grandeur of a private estate, with the sociable geniality of a much-loved host. Easily reached from London and a short distance from Heathrow Airport, this extraordinary 5-star hotel is a haven of calm. Stay over in one of the 48 bedrooms each named after past house visitors or Spring Cottage, a jewel-like riverside hideaway. Spoil yourself at The Cliveden Spa hidden behind the brick walls of the garden and enveloped in tumbling scented roses and lavender. Enjoy an incredible dining experience at The Cliveden Dining Room where innovative, modern British dishes, fastidious preparation and immaculate finishes shine through in each exquisitely crafted creation. The Astor Grill in the charming old stable block is full of character offering a simple and informal approach to dining at Cliveden. The Cliveden boathouse is ideally located on one of the most beautiful reaches of the Thames and is home to the Cliveden flotilla of lovingly maintained vintage launches, available for guests to take in the scenic views from the water. Cliveden was voted ‘Editors’ all-time favourite hotel’ in the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List 2020 and ‘England’s Leading Country House Hotel 2020’ in the 27th Annual World Travel Awards.
