Built in 1687 as the private residence of Edinburgh’s Lord Provost, Prestonfield House was designed by the King’s architect, Sir William Bruce, following his completion of the Palace of Holyroodhouse – now the official Scottish residence of King Charles III. Set within 20 acres of private parkland in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat, the dramatic volcanic outcrop that defines Edinburgh’s skyline, Prestonfield offers a true urban oasis just minutes from the heart of the city’s historic Old Town.

Welcoming visitors from around the world for more than three centuries, Prestonfield was purchased in 2003 by renowned Edinburgh restaurateur James Thomson. The house has since been lovingly restored with great respect for its rich heritage. James has preserved the historic grandeur and authenticity that make Prestonfield so unique, while introducing the theatrical sense of luxury for which his establishments are celebrated.

His vision was met with wide acclaim: Prestonfield was awarded AA Five Red Stars and named AA Hotel of the Year for Scotland, described as “Scotland’s most sumptuous hotel.” Today, Prestonfield House continues to offer an unforgettable blend of heritage, hospitality, and opulence.
