On Monday 14th September, a selection of Walpole members, partners and friends gathered in the historic Pompadour Ballroom of the Hotel Café Royal on London's Regent Street to celebrate the arrival of the Book of British Luxury 2026/2027. Under the space's gilded ceiling, guests enjoyed canapés with gin cocktails by Silent Pool and sparkling wine by Chapel Down, as well as the occasional game of backgammon on bespoke boards provided by Alexandra Llewellyn, while ALR Music's DJ soundtracked the evening.
This year, our annual publication is dedicated to exploring the timeless thinking that's currently guiding Britain’s most successful luxury brands. With essays penned by a roster of thought-leaders – including Fedora Abu, Dr Nicholas Cullinan OBE, Sonia Haria, Peter Howarth and Lydia Slater – the Book of British Luxury 2026/2027 not only explores the trends that will influence the sector over the coming year but also showcases the most notable brands and makers in British luxury right now.
The cover, designed by Walpole member and celebrated games maker Alexandra Llewellyn, has been entirely handcrafted in exquisite wood marquetry before being photographed. It folds out into a fully functional backgammon board, celebrating the enduring value of collaboration and the joy of coming together.
