Walpole: In a world where we’re always available, how do you separate your personal time from your work time?
Andrew Coney: Sadly, I don’t always. As General Manager of The Hari, there is an element to the role which means you are always 'on'. But as a culture at the hotel, we are respectful that time booked off is 'off' - and, luckily, being a father means I get to dedicate all my spare attention to my kids, whether they want it or not!
What’s one thing you do after the work day to help you unwind?
I may be biased, but I do love our Italian restaurant, Il Pampero. There is no bad day that the chef’s Cacio e Pepe and a crisp, cool glass of Sauvignon Blanc can’t fix.
What activity do you do in your time away from the office that helps you relax and re-centre after a stressful week?
I took up boxing in lockdown. I find it's a great way to refocus.
What’s something you’ve read, listened to or seen in your spare time that’s helped you at work?
Mark Manson's The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k. It really woke me up to an alternative way of approaching the day.
After home and the office, where’s your favourite third space?
Jumping into my vintage Jaguar E-Type.
On Sunday night, how do you prepare yourself for the week ahead?
I take my golden retriever for a long walk and, in between her bouts of bad behaviour, I discipline my mind for the week ahead.
Best reason you've had to turn your Out of Office on recently?
For the first time in two years, I took a holiday to Tuscany with my family.
Your go-to Out of Office outfit: I am a country gentleman. Burberry and Hackett look after me.
Your 'happy place' anywhere in the world: The Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
Your favourite bar or restaurant: My local, The Rose and Crown in Northumberland – a place to totally unwind.
Something you booked recently that you'd recommend: Visiting our vineyards in Sussex and Kent where the most remarkable wines are produced.
A hobby you'd like to cultivate: Cooking. I was once told in lockdown that my whole family had Covid from my tasteless dinner. Charming!
A luxury that’s actually a necessity: An Aspinal of London fountain pen .
Best luxury under £25: A carefully chosen paperback book from John Sandoe Books.
