Founded in the autumn of 2020 by Josh Roberts, Katto crafts exceptional kitchenware using sustainable materials and – wherever possible – human hands at its workshop in Sheffield. The business was started on the premise that people today want to own fewer, but better, things that make their days that little bit better.
Having started with slicing instruments (you'll find the brand's beautifully-crafted steak knives in a number of London's best restaurants, including The Pelican in Notting Hill and The Devonshire in Soho), Katto has now expanded its range to take over the rest of the kitchen cabinet, having recently launched cast-iron cookware, chopping boards, barbeque tools and much more.
"Firstly, I wish I'd done it sooner. I'm 34 now, but I wish I'd done it when I was 28. I love it so much, I wish I'd spent more time doing it," said Roberts when asked what advice he'd have for any other entrepreneurs thinking of starting their own luxury brand. "Secondly, I'd have probably read a business book to avoid all the obvious mistakes. And thirdly, get a panel of advisors to poke at the business – that really helped us crystalise our thinking."
