When did you join Walpole and how did you come to work here?
Olivia Lowdell: I started working at Walpole in March 2013 after two years of running large-scale conferences and exhibitions in South-East Asia. A very good friend of mine mentioned there was a maternity cover events role at Walpole – and nine years later, I'm still here!
What do you do at Walpole?
I am Head of Events at Walpole, which means I plan the events calendar for the year. I project manage each event and run them on-site with the help of the incredible Walpole team.
What’s your favourite aspect of the job?
Working with incredible brands and the best venues in London. The hardest part about events is when things go wrong on-site (usually last minute!). However, working in 5-star luxury hotels and venues means that this is an absolute rarity as the in-house event managers are experts and the catering, surroundings and AV are always second-to-none.
The best place for a work breakfast in London is: The Ned. The scrambled eggs on toast is an absolute winner.
My office beverage of choice is: JING Earl Grey loose tea from a tea caddy with milk. I would never have this at home, but it is readily available in the Walpole Townhouse so I often treat myself.
The last thing I read/listened to on my commute was: I have just finished Sally Rooney’s Beautiful World, Where Are You, which is a bit of an uncomfortable read but there is a happy(ish) ending.
The ultimate luxury under £25 is: Am I allowed to say the cinema? I rarely get to go to the cinema these days so it feels even more of a luxury and I miss it!
