Cowdray

Last month, Cowdray Estate in West Sussex launched a competition for members to the public to create The King's Sandwich – a Coronation-celebrating quest to find a notable new sandwich, encompassing everything from the bread to the filling that is ‘fit for a king’. After an exhaustive judging process and strong competition, the winner was announced as The Royal Crab: granary bread, Cornish butter, fresh brown and white Cornish crab, salad leaves, mayonnaise, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne and black pepper.

The winning sandwich was much debated between all judges, and it was tightly placed, but in the end, the decision was unanimous.

Farm Shop General Manager Rupert Titchmarsh commented that The Royal Crab stood out as it was “a deliciously light summery sandwich with a hit of cayenne elevating it, showcasing one of Britain’s culinary rarities and celebrating the historical seat of the Duke of Cornwall.”

The Royal Crab will be served on the specials menu at the Cowdray Farm Shop Café for the Coronation Bank Holiday weekend with 50p from each sandwich sale being donated to Air Ambulance KSS, the Cowdray Estate charity for 2023.

Available this weekend at the Cowdray Farm Shop Café, Cowdray Park, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 0AJ. Read more at cowdray.co.uk

Johnstons of Elgin

In celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, Scottish textile crafter Johnstons of Elgin has launched a limited-edition Coronation collection. These exclusive commemorative designs are embroidered with the official emblem of the historical event, which will feature throughout May’s celebrations. This special edit includes a Double Face Lambswool Throw (acove), chosen to represent King Charles’s connection with The Campaign for Wool. This not-for-profit organisation, launched in 2010 to promote the benefits of wool, is run by a coalition of industry groups convened by His Majesty when he was Prince of Wales.

The Coronation Edit also includes a Cashmere Scarf and an Online Exclusive Cashmere Throw, each made with the finest fibres in an elegant silver hue.

The Coronation emblem, featuring the red and blue of the union flag, was designed by internationally revered designer Sir Jony Ive KBE and his creative collective, LoveFrom. Honouring The King’s love of the natural world, the motif unifies the flora of the four nations of the United Kingdom; the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales and the shamrock of Northern Ireland. Together, the flowers create the shape of St Edward’s Crown, with which His Majesty The King will be crowned during the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.

Bentley Motors

To celebrate the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, a team of craftspeople from Bentley Motors have worked together to produce a limited series of bespoke cabin cushions for a fleet of Bentleys. The team, based at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, has used a combination of fine craftsmanship and cutting edge technology to digitise the special Coronation Emblem before creating each bespoke cushion by hand.

Three full days and four iterations or embroidery processing were required to achieve Bentley’s exacting quality standards, with nearly 30,000 stitches in each emblem needing careful refinement. The emblem consists of two separate thread colours, and three different colourways of the emblem were used, to contrast the individually-selected hides for different colours of cushions to match the interiors of the Bentleys that will use them.

Each cushion took over three hours to produce and uses hides sourced from Northern Europe where the temperate climate and lack of barbed wire fencing reduces imperfections. Each hide is checked and marked by hand and eye before being precision cut. Stitched, shaped and finished entirely by hand, the completed cushions rivals the quality of the cars themselves. Trim Developer Ella Mitchell has led the craftsmanship process that’s produced the bespoke cushions for this unique occasion. The cushions will remain with Bentley’s press cars for a time and are not available for purchase.

Wedgwood

Storied British ceramics house Wedgwood is embracing this momentous occasion in British history by crafting a striking fine bone china commemorative mug for the Coronation. This is adapted from an original design by the graphic designer, Richard Guyatt, who designed a pint-sized Wedgwood mug for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The detail in this majestic design reflects the whimsical ‘Festival of Britain’ style distinctive of the 1950s, featuring a stylised crown flanked by the heraldic lion and unicorn of the United Kingdom. His Majesty’s feathery monogram, 'CIIIR', takes centre stage in pale grey and yellow, with the date '2023' below. Proudly crafted in England by our skilled craftspeople, each piece is completed with the words 'God Save the King' and 22-carat gold lining.

In addition to a standard edition mug, there are also 100 of these commemorative mugs being created in a special limited edition (pictured above), featuring 22-carat gold hand raised details and numbering from 1 to 100 as a mark of authenticity.

Boodles

Boodles is marking King Charles III's accession to the throne by crafting a unique Coronation Gemini Ring. Continuing the brand's long history with the Royal Family (dating back to 1934 when the current King's great-grandfather King George V visited Liverpool in 1934 and commissioned the house to create a silver gilt switch box as a commemorative gift), this piece of coronation jewellery includes two very special diamonds from the Cullinan Mine - source of the largest rough diamond ever discovered: the 3,106 carat Cullinan diamond.

The mineral yielded Cullinan I and Cullinan II – the ‘Greater and Lesser Stars of Africa’ – both of which are among the Crown Jewels. They featured during Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation on 2nd June 1953, in the Sovereign’s Sceptre and the Imperial State Crown. This connection links the spectacular ring intrinsically to the Coronation event itself, owing to its royal bearings. Weighing 3.20ct and 2.15ct respectively, both heart shaped diamonds come from the same rough and are fully traceable.

Boodles Senior Designer, Tamara Tuganova, chose to take a naturalistic route when embarking on the design of the piece, wanting the ring to celebrate the “sense of occasion”. As a nod to regalia, the ring combines floral motifs with ribbons. Delicate pave-set strands pay homage to the ribbons often worn by Royals on state occasions. The ring is a celebration of spring, flowers and nature, which is fitting for the date of the Coronation, as well as to King Charles III's passion for horticulture and the natural environment.
