Jamie Gill tells us more about The Outsiders Perspective's new executive search service

The Interview
8th May 2026
Earlier this year, as Walpole sought to strengthen its board, we turned to our longtime partner The Outsiders Perspective and its recently-launched executive search service to find exceptional candidates. Here, we speak to the organisation's Founder and CEO Jamie Gill about why its important for luxury brands to work with a specialist partner on their recruitment needs and what sets The Outsiders Perspective apart from its peers in the executive search space.

Walpole: As someone who has held a series of C-suite and NED positions, what experiences from those roles have shaped The Outsiders Perspective's philosophy on executive search?

Jamie Gill: I founded The Outsiders Perspective because the single greatest challenge I faced as a Chief Executive in luxury was identifying truly exceptional talent. I was searching for people who combined outstanding skills, fresh perspectives, and new knowledge – capabilities I didn't yet have in-house – with a genuine passion for the industry. People who were energised by [the industry], not those who were disgruntled; people who understood the practicalities of execution, and who were simply great to work with. That profile felt rare, but I always believed those people existed; they simply weren't where everyone else was looking.

What struck me most was that almost every executive search firm I encountered had never actually led a luxury brand. As a result, they couldn't truly understand what I needed, or what would thrive within our culture. Add to that executive search fees sitting at 35%, and the case for doing things differently became impossible to ignore. That is what drove me to build a talent organisation with a genuinely different philosophy, one grounded in the lived experience of the roles we recruit for.

Why is it important for luxury brands to work with a specialist partner on executive search?

Identifying and mapping high-potential talent on a global scale is an enormously complex undertaking. It requires a sophisticated blend of network activation, candidate pooling, rigorous screening, in-depth interviewing, and the creation of a truly bespoke shortlist. That is an exceptionally difficult process to execute well in-house, even for organisations with a dedicated executive search function – and even then, the most compelling candidates often remain off the radar entirely. A specialist partner exists to close that gap.

What sets The Outsiders Perspective apart in the executive search space?

The name reflects our philosophy, the talent luxury needs is often outside it, but we ourselves are deeply embedded in the industry. We work with some of the most celebrated houses including Chanel, Burberry, Harrods and Mulberry, and we have developed a deep, nuanced understanding of what drives success and what doesn't across different brands and cultures.

Our philosophy is built around identifying highly skilled, diverse candidates with a genuine knowledge of global luxury growth markets. Equally, we look beyond conventional industry pools, drawing on high-performing adjacent sectors, whether technology, professional services or consulting, to bring technical rigour and genuine innovation into luxury.

Aside from Walpole, which other luxury organisations has The Outsiders Perspective partnered with on executive search?

Some of the most prominent names include PUIG, Karla Otto, Capri Holdings and the British Fashion Council.

How can luxury brands benefit from working with The Outsiders Perspective?

The industry is at a critical inflection point. Many brands are contracting, and the long-held practice of poaching talent from competitors no longer offers the strategic advantage it once did. The honest reality is that within luxury, the pool of truly new ideas and untested strategies is finite. We cannot afford to stand still, and yet the talent capable of driving fresh perspectives and genuine professional rigour into the business may not be sitting within our industry at all.

Our conviction is that right now talent is elsewhere: in professional services, in technology, in consulting, in broader consumer goods. Finding it is what we do.

In what other ways can your organisation support luxury brands beyond executive search?

We partner with our clients across several complementary areas. Our flagship accelerator programme identifies junior-to-mid-level, highly skilled diverse professionals who are looking to transition into luxury across operational functions, finance, HR, technology, legal and marketing.

We also build bespoke talent acquisition programmes that pool exceptional candidates from outside the industry to meet both live vacancies and forecast hiring needs. Our new Retail Accelerator will identify high-potential, customer-facing talent from complementary sectors beyond luxury.

Finally, our learning and development offering helps businesses unlock the opportunity that comes from hiring outside of industry, equipping brands with what they need to hire differently, particularly where those candidates reflect the very customers that luxury brands are working to serve.
