One Aldwych re-opens its doors to refreshed cocktail bar, restaurant and suites

The Grand Tour
13th March 2025

Earlier this week, One Aldwych (the capital's first five-star B Corp hotel) opened its doors once again after an extensive and luxurious refurbishment programme – and we've got a first look. One of our newest members, the Covent Garden establishment worked with London-based designers Fabled Studio to reimagine the Lobby Bar, Indigo restaurant and Signature Suites for a glamorous and distinctly future-facing new era.

"At One Aldwych, we have been given an expansive creative freedom aligning with their bold vision, owing to the hotel’s independent status and spirit," says Steven Saunders, one of the founders of Fabled Studio, "and we are proud to add these modern embellishments to one of London’s most iconic hotels."

Guest will now be able to enjoy a cocktail in the Lobby Bar in the presence of a new installation. A bold, large-scale sculptural ceiling now crowns this space, featuring a flowing and amorphous metallicised texture that ripples across the room, bringing striking depth, clarity and intrigue to the interior. This grand artistic statement is enhanced by a recently-launched menu of exquisite cocktails inspired by the individual pieces of modern art you'll find dotted around the hotel.

The hotel's Indigo restaurant has also been reinvigorated with further nods to the building’s heritage. Deep-set arched windows looking out over the hustle and bustle of theatreland have been lined in English oak, embodying the texture and detail of the original historic and listed windows. Intimacy and comfort are communicated through soft, new light fittings and patterned wall coverings, enhancing the colourful and striking abstract art pieces hung throughout this modern British brasserie. The restaurant reopens with a new spring menu from Executive Chef Dominic Teague packed with seasonal, British produce, in keeping with the hotel’s overarching ethos of championing the best of British makers and growers.

Finally, this renovation encompasses new styling to two of the hotel’s Signature Suites: The Somerset and The Waterloo Bridge, which were originally masterminded by interior designer Robert Angell in 2019. Central to this includes the addition of objets by American ceramacist and interior decorator Jonathan Adler. However, it also includes more far-reaching interventions, such as the Somerset Suite being re-configured to offer four spacious bedrooms in order to cater to demand for more family-friendly accommodation. With this in mind, the hotel has also adapted two bedrooms into dedicated twins for families coming to explore Covent Garden.

"These works mark an exciting period in One Aldwych’s evolution and have been led by our desire to continually adapt to guest demand and create the best possible experience, from style through to service," says One Aldwych’s Managing Director, Janine Marshall. "We want our design to reflect our independence, as a brand and as a building, which we feel we have captured working with incredible design talent such as Fabled Studio, over the years."
