Sanderson hits the catwalk for the first time

In fashion, great collaborations are born out of two creative powerhouses riffing off each other's history, values and unique point of view – so when we heard that playful Italian fashion label Moschino was going to work with historic British interiors brand (and Walpole member) Sanderson Design Group, we were intrigued to see the results.

These were revealed earlier this month at Milan Fashion Week when Moschino's Creative Director, Adrian Appiolaza (who was appointed last year after a decade at Loewe) unveiled his fourth collection for the house. In amongst his looks were five outfits featuring pieces that showcased archival Sanderson prints – marking the first time that the brand has featured on the catwalk in its 165-year history.

Three floral patterns were reinterpreted by the Moschino team in collaboration with Sanderson: Grandiflora (with its blooming magnolia flowers), Etchings & Roses (which was combined with another pattern, Eton Poppy, originally designed by Austrian textile artist Mea Angerer in 1928), and Stapleton Park (a spray of roses, foxgloves, and hydrangeas created by Pat Etheridge, who designed for the firm from the 1960s, in the 1990s).

"It was thrilling to work with Moschino on this project, to see where they would take our designs and the vision for how Sanderson can so effortlessly layer into contemporary moments that push the boundaries of heritage design outside of the world of interiors," says Claire Vallis, Design Director for Sanderson Design Group, of the collaboration. "Seeing these designs come to life in bold new ways has been incredibly exciting, with those cheeky signature twists that Moschino is so known and respected for."
