An artwork in itself, no two BOUND collections are the same. "We challenged our artists to think outside their usual practice whether that be fashion or jewellery design, photography, filmmaking or painting, and present themselves in an unexpected way" explains Sarabande's Director Trino Verkdade.
The limited-edition run of 100 copies features works where paper from G . F Smith has been sculpted, cut, embossed, perforated, hand painted, embroidered and dyed. There are also fold outs, cut outs, collages and transparent windows.
20 of the artists have also created 10 original artworks each which are randomly scattered througout the limited run of 100 books, with each edition of BOUND including two original artworks.
The book will be bound tight in hand-embroidered linen in the traditional Japanese Furoshiki style. The wrap features Sarabande’s signature deadhead moth flying free of the flame and drawn to the light, in a design inspired by Escher.
Sarabande - the foundation established by the late Lee Alexander McQueen - has helped accelerate the careers of dozens of artists and designers including Craig Gree, Michaela Yearwood-Dan, Sam Rock, Castro Smith and Camilla Hanney.
The ultimate Christmas present for any fashion or art lover, BOUND is available for £2,500 via Sarabande’s website and through Dover Street Market, and features a foreword by Charlie Porter.
