Walpole Weekender Out of Office: Lisa Montague

Walpole: In a world where we’re always available, how do you separate your personal time from your work time?

Lisa Montague: I decompress on the transition between home and work, work and home to make sure each have my undivided attention.

What’s one thing you do after the work day to help you unwind?

I enjoy cooking and try to get home in time to read bedtime stories to our youngest daughter. I just love The Faraway Tree series.

What activity do you do in your time away from the office that helps you relax and recentre after a stressful week?

Retreat to the seaside for blustery beach walks to clear the mind. Being by the water is so tranquil.

What’s something you’ve read, listened to or seen in your spare time that’s helped you at work?

I really enjoy the Harvard Business Review's magazine and short online reads. We run a leadership book club at work and enjoy debating various business classics, podcasts and articles.

After home and the office, where’s your favourite third space?

I’ve enjoyed being a member of Soho House for many years and visit frequently both at home and abroad, in town and country, with colleagues, friends and family.

On Sunday night, how do you prepare yourself for the week ahead?

Dropping the kids back to school and brushing off the salt and sand.

Best reason you've had to turn your Out of Office on recently?

I would never turn on the Out of Office!

The OUT OF OFFICE hotlist:

Your go-to Out of Office outfit: Hayley Menzies long cardigan coats

Your happy place anywhere in the world: on or by the water – the Solent, Mediterranean or Caribbean – or on horseback.

Your favourite bar or restaurant: La Trompette in Chiswick. It's the only place I ever order dessert – you have to try the rhubarb crumble sorbet with buttermilk ice cream!

Something you booked recently that you'd recommend: a fast hack in Windsor Great Park with Tally Ho at Dell Park Farm. Well-schooled horses, accomplished guides and a good pace in a beautiful setting just outside London.

Something you've listened to or read recently that you'd recommend: The Human Being Diet by Petronella Ravenshear has helped me develop healthier habits and feel even more energetic.

A hobby you'd like to cultivate: I’d love to understand Japanese. I find it very frustrating to be unable to communicate elegantly in this important market.

A luxury that’s actually a necessity: to make time for fun and to laugh

Best luxury under £25: Laura Mercier Lip Glacé
