After a high-pressure week of meetings, management and making connections, the best way to decompress is to plug in your headphones and allow a superb selection of tunes to take your brain far away from world of work. Enter the all-new Walpole Weekend Wind-Down: a monthly playlist of tracks curated by one of our Walpole members that will help you transition into a weekend headspace.
Our July playlist has been curated by Greg Davis, a seasoned saxophonist who leads leads the trio of musicians who soundtrack the new weekly jazz night at Brown's Hotel in Mayfair. Every Sunday evening, you can now end the week with dinner at Charlie's restaurant, accompanied with a side of soothing, joyful live music. Whether you're stopping in for well-crafted cocktail and a light bite or something more substantial from the menu of modern British classics from Michelin-starred chef Adam Byatt, we dare you to try and resist the urge to tap your toe to the mellow and melodious sounds from Davies and his bandmates – from blues to bebop, bossa nova to samba.
This eclectic, cross-genre vibe is reflected in the playlist Davis has curated for us this month, filled with artists from jazz greats like Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gilespie to The Carpenters, The Style Council and Pink Floyd. It's also worth noting that Davies himself makes an appearance on the playlist too.
"This is a beautiful bossa written by my guitarist friend, Cliff, who asked me to play on it," says Davis of Track 6, 'More Life – Bossa Mix' by Spiral System (featuring Lottie Child). "Classic self-indulgence and shameless self-promotion!"
However, while it's all very well and good listening to one of Davis' recorded tracks, it's not a patch on seeing him in real life - so we suggest you book yourself a table one Sunday soon.
