Artistic Director Jesús Herrera tells us more about the glittering LPO Gala in June

The Interview
9th January 2026
This June, Walpole cultural member the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) will host its annual fundraising event, the LPO Gala 2026, at HERE at Outernet in the capital on Monday 29th June. Here, we speak to the LPO's Artistic Director, Jesús Herrera, about why you should come along to this sparkling evening of world-class entertainment and unforgettable fine dining, all in aid of the LPO's charitable mission.

Walpole: You joined the LPO as Artistic Director in June 2025. What have been the highlights of your time in the role so far?

Jesús Herrera: Every LPO concert is a highlight. It’s an enormous privilege to work for an orchestra that constantly plays at a world-class level and offers such vibrant performances. This period has also featured some fascinating tours, including South Korea in October and Germany during the Christmas Market period, to name just two. These have been tremendously memorable experiences beyond the exciting day-to-day work of the LPO.

Why does the LPO host this annual event – and why is it important to the organisation?

Last year’s Gala took place on my second day in the job, so was the perfect introduction to the LPO and helped me understand why it brings so many fascinating people together. Everyone loves the Orchestra and they feel part of a strong community. The Gala is a crucial moment in the year for renewing this support as well as opening doors to new friends and supporters.

This year, the Gala has moved to a new high-tech venue. Can you tell me more about that – and how that will influence the Gala itself?

HERE at Outernet is a unique space that will allow us to explore unusual and exciting approaches to music-making. We are thrilled by the prospect of using the venue’s technology to make this Gala an unforgettable night of immersive entertainment.

Is there a theme this year? Can you tell us more about what to expect?

Our 2026 Gala will focus on the next generation of musical talent and shine a spotlight on the LPO’s many programmes that bring together young people from diverse backgrounds. From players who have been nurtured by the orchestra and now hold important positions across the globe, to the many children who have discovered classical music through our schools and family concerts, alumni of our young conductor and composer programmes, members of our New Generation Board, participants of our creative projects with young disabled people, community groups across the South Coast, and many more. These initiatives are central to the orchestra’s social impact work, so the Gala will be a wonderful occasion where we celebrate and raise vital funds so we can continue nurturing the next generation of artists and appreciators.

What are you most looking forward to on the night?

Experiencing the orchestra and engaging with our network of amazing supporters in such a unique venue is guaranteed to be a memorable experience for all involved. I anticipate it generating a lot of excitement in the room!

What has been your input with the Gala?

I am currently conceiving the Gala’s artistic programme to ensure its musical elements are cohesive and celebratory. In this, I am delighted to be working with our wonderful Gala Committee. Together we have determined the concept, setting and key partners in order to make the most of this opportunity.

Wines for the event will be provided by Lay & Wheeler

Any intel on the food and drink?

Guests can look forward to a bespoke culinary experience crafted by our longstanding Gala catering partner, Zafferano, matched with a selection of fine wines and fizz from LPO wine partner, Lay & Wheeler. Together we'll be designing a delicious three-course menu that resonates with our 2026/26 Season theme, 'Harmony with Nature'.

Is there anything else we should know about the event?

We are shortly expecting to announce a very exciting soloist for this Gala, whose artistry embodies the same dynamism and excellence for which the LPO is recognised around the world.

The LPO Gala 2026 will take place on Monday 29th June. To find out more, enquire about sponsorship or purchase tickets, please visit lpo.org.uk or contact [email protected]
