Walpole: In a world where we’re always available, how do you separate your personal time from your work time?
Denis Trushin: I really enjoy what I am doing, it is that amazing feeling when your work is your hobby. I rarely fully switch off, and often find myself WhatsApping ideas and action points to my work phone. I try not to look at emails after hours though, and 'do not disturb' mode can often be seen on my phone after 7pm.
What’s one thing you do after the workday to help you unwind?
A long walk in the park with my dog. It’s a win-win scenario for both of us.
What activity do you do in your time away from the office that helps you relax and recentre after a stressful week?
Recently, I have been spending all my weekends in the countryside. A morning walk by the sea, a trip to a local farm shop, cosy evening by the fireplace in a gastropub. It gives me an opportunity to unwind and reset, and I return on Monday refreshed and ready for a new, exciting week at Alexandra Llewellyn.
What’s something you’ve read, listened to, or seen in your spare time that’s helped you at work?
A Harvard Business Review article 'How to Take Better Breaks at Work'. It changed the way I plan my day, helping me to channel my energy more efficiently.
After home and the office, where’s your favourite ‘third space’?
The first thing that popped into my head was a garden centre. But I would say my car – I love driving, it creates a sense of adventure no matter the distance I am travelling. I especially love driving if it is to the garden centre.
On Sunday night, how do you prepare yourself for the week ahead?
I try to have the most relaxing and peaceful Sunday, and go to bed early to allow enough time for five full sleep cycles.
Best reason you've had to turn your out of office on recently?
I haven't turned it on in a while, but I look forward to doing so later this month when I go on a road-trip in Sicily. And yes, the second season of White Lotus might have influenced the choice of the destination.
