Walpole: When did you join Walpole?
Sadaf Quyoum: I recently joined – a few months ago in April. I am thrilled to be a part of such a talented team.
How did you come to work here? What’s your career history?
After graduating, I did a work placement at British Vogue and I have worked in media ever since. I have focused on fashion and beauty at Condé Nast, Hearst and the Guardian, and I continue to write on cultural themes on a freelance basis.
Craftsmanship runs in my family: my dad owned a denim factory in the 1980s and my grandad was a Savile Row tailor, so I have always been interested in what Walpole does to promote and to develop British luxury. When I saw an opening as acting Head of Membership, it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.
What do you do at Walpole?
As the acting Head of Membership, I oversee that Walpole's impressive list of members are receiving an excellent service. I work with the membership team to ensure that members are making the most of their membership and raising awareness about our events, including the Walpole British Luxury Awards and the Walpole British Luxury Summit, alongside our research and insights, most recently into craftsmanship in our Luxury in the Making study and our representation of members in the UK and in Europe, through ECCIA.
What’s your favourite aspect of the job?
I so enjoy catching up with our wonderful members in some of the most beautiful locations in London. These events are a great excuse to dress up! I am also so energised by the creativity nurtured within our community, and seeing collaborations between our member brands is sheer magic.
What’s the best thing about working in the British luxury sector?
You never stop learning! The luxury industry is constantly growing and adapting to developing demands, which means no one day is the same. It’s an amazing experience to be able to talk to founders and CEOs from brands across the sector. There is such a strong sense of community within the industry, and it's wonderful to be a part of.
