Jo Malone London has announced a new two-year global partnership with UNICEF, the world’s leading organisation for children, to protect and promote mental health and wellbeing for children, young people and caregivers around the world.
The partnership marks the start of a dynamic new relationship between Jo Malone London and UNICEF, after the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated concerns about the mental health of a generation of children. It also forms a core pillar of the beauty and lifestyle brand’s long commitment to shining a light on mental health, which has been ongoing since 2012.
Throughout the duration of the partnership, Jo Malone London is committed to donating $4.5 million towards UNICEF’s mental health work by 2025. This includes an initial $1 million donation, announced in October 2022 when Jo Malone London joined the UNICEF-led Global Coalition for Youth Mental Health, alongside Spotify, Zurich Insurance Group and Z Zurich Foundation. The further $3.5million will be raised through sales of the brand’s Charity Candle collection, consumer checkout donations and employee fundraising activities as part of the new two-year partnership.
The funds raised will contribute towards a mix of UNICEF’s work, from country programmes to national and global advocacy. These include: UNICEF’s Caring for Caregivers initiative, which gives parents and caregivers confidence and skills to support their own and their child’s wellbeing; implementing school programmes that build social-emotional learning and promote wellbeing; enhancing training to build a quality mental health workforce through the EQUIP Programme; and supporting young people to provide peer-to-peer psychological first aid in humanitarian contexts, with I Support My Friends.
"We have worked to protect mental health and wellbeing for over a decade; raising awareness, providing support and stamping out stigmas by proudly supporting inspirational charities," says Jo Dancey, Senior Vice President, Global General Manager, Jo Malone London. "Our partnership with UNICEF is a milestone in our investment in mental health. By intervening early to support children and caregivers, we hope to break the cycle of poor mental health that affects so many; helping to create a brighter tomorrow."
"Mental health is an issue of our time, but too often neglected and underfunded," says Jon Sparkes, Chief Executive of UNICEF UK. "We are excited to be working with Jo Malone London as a long-term champion of mental health, and would like to extend our thanks to the brand for choosing to partner with us. Together we will transform the lives of millions of children, young people and caregivers as we seek to strengthen the systems and services that support and improve mental health."
