Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced the launch of a new Business Council as part of its ambitions to assert Britain as the best place in the world to do business. The Business Council is formed of a key cohort of leaders from 28 British businesses, including Burberry’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Julie Brown.
These leaders will share their expertise, insight and market knowledge in order to accelerate the post-pandemic recovery, deliver the green industrial revolution, create new jobs, develop a highly skilled workforce and unlock global investment in the United Kingdom.
Julie Brown said today “I’m honoured to be appointed to the Prime Minister’s Business Council. The fashion and luxury sector has an important role to play in helping drive a high growth, low carbon economy, and I look forward to working closely with business leaders from across industry to help ensure the UK has the skills and infrastructure it needs to compete globally”
Worth £48b to the UK economy – 2.4 per cent of the UK’s total GDP - and with exports worth £38.5b, the luxury sector is the jewel in the crown of British business. Ms Brown’s appointment to the government’s Business Council is a significant acknowledgment of how important Britain’s luxury brands are to driving the future success of the country.
