On the evening of Tuesday 2nd October 2023, guests from a selection of Walpole member organisations gathered in the Grand Ballroom at The Langham, London for a reception to mark the start of our inaugural Walpole Culture Week – a seven-day celebration of the cultural and artistic institutions that are so central to our luxury ecosystem here in the UK.
While guests enjoyed a performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra's string quartet, Walpole CEO Helen Brocklebank welcomed guests with a brief speech drawing attention to our recent The State of London Luxury report and the importance of the rich British cultural scene to our sector.
As Helen emphasised in her CEO letter earlier in the week, now is the time to recognise the intertwined relationship between culture and luxury: "If we don’t protect and support our cultural institutions and our arts scene, particularly at a time when other sources of funding are diminishing so dramatically, we risk damaging one of the most important things on which the long-term strength of UK luxury depends."
