For nine years, Focus Productions has provided key technical support for Walpole's flagship events, the British Luxury Awards and the British Luxury Summit. Since it was founded nearly two decades ago, Focus Productions has expanded its offering to include full event design, styling and management services, winning plaudits from world-renowned clients such as the Royal Horticultural Society and the Wallace Collection.
Learn a little more about our latest addition to the Walpole family in our interview with the Founder & Managing Director of Focus Productions, Dom Watson, below.
Walpole: Tell us about the history of your brand…
Dom Watson: Starting out with a small van and a few lights in a barn in West Sussex, I set up Focus Productions with the intention to ‘bring event concepts to life’. Nearly 20 years later, the business has evolved and it is now a London-based agency offering precision expertise in every area of live event production. From technical support to comprehensive event design, creative styling and project management, Focus delivers excellence down to the finest detail.
Working across a wide variety of prestigious venues, and with corporate, private and international clients, the company has expanded considerably, but our ethos remains the same: work to impeccable standards, invest in the best, deliver nothing less than excellence and hopefully have some fun along the way!
What is your brand best known for?
Working for many years as an accredited supplier to some of London’s premier venues such as the V&A Museum, Tate Modern, the Wallace Collection and Spencer House, we are renowned production professionals in the live events industry. We have the reputation for working to impeccable standards, delivering prestigious, stylish, well-crafted and technically demanding events for high-profile private and corporate clients.
What has been a significant achievement in your company’s timeline?
We joined the RHS Chelsea Flower Show key supplier team as part of its corporate hospitality offering, which has been a real highlight. It is always an incredibly challenging and inspiring week of events to be involved in. Our relationship with the Royal Horticultural Society developed over the past few years and we look forward to returning to Chelsea every year to see what challenge the team have in store for us!
Another milestone achievement was becoming an accredited supplier for the prestigious V&A Museum. It has been a loyal supporter of ours and it feels like home every time we work there.
We started as a specialist lighting company and we have recently developed into a fully fledged creative event production agency. This development has been a significant achievement of which the whole company is incredibly proud as it opens up a lot of new and exciting opportunities for us.
Why do you love the brand?
I’m still passionate about what we do. Turning a client’s creative vision into a spectacular real-world event, holding their hand every step of the way. I have huge respect for my team, who are incredibly dedicated, extremely hard-working, loyal, creative, enthusiastic and eager to keep learning. The world of events is constantly changing both technically and creatively, and that’s a real inspiration to all of us at Focus. No two events are ever the same!
Why does your brand represent the very best in British luxury?
Our associations and work with some of the key cultural institutions in London, such as English Heritage, the British Museum and the Design Museum, plus some of the most renowned brands expose us to and align us with the very best in British luxury.
What attracted you to becoming a Walpole member?
We’ve had the honour of helping to produce and deliver the annual Walpole British Luxury Awards for the past nine years, exposing us to a network of like-minded organisations that strive for and deliver excellence, including Walpole itself. Our values feel aligned with those of our fellow members and we are looking forward to getting to know them better and building enduring working relationships.
If you could collaborate with another Walpole member, which one would you choose?
We have already had the good fortune to provide our event services to some Walpole members. We would very much like to build a relationship with Chanel, particularly as we have recently produced a number of private views of its current exhibition Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto at the V&A.
Tell us about an exciting development or new launch for your brand in the coming months?
Excitingly, we have recently acquired high-end events agency, V.S. Creative. This development has given us a full event design and management service to complement our core technical production expertise. We are now able to shift our focus for clients looking for the complete event delivery package.
