Get to know Rebecca Mars, Walpole's Membership Manager

The Interview
31st October 2023

Walpole: When did you join Walpole and how did you come to work here?

Rebecca Mars: I joined Walpole in July 2022. A friend sent me the job on LinkedIn and I thought it looked like a dream opportunity in terms of both company and role. I had previously worked at Graduate Fashion Week and at the British Fashion Council, so was excited to have an opportunity to expand my sphere into a whole host of new sectors, while still keeping connected to the style world.

What do you do at Walpole?

I'm Membership Manager at Walpole. I work closely with Jessica Day, Walpole's Head of Membership, to service and manage Walpole's 250 members. I help to onboard new members and meet with our existing members to keep them updated on Walpole's activities. I also feed their news back to the wider the Walpole team, so that we're all in the loop.

What’s your favourite aspect of the job?

I'm very fortunate to spend a lot of time meeting with our wonderful members and hearing their news. Our membership is across such a wide range of sectors, so each meeting is very different. I also enjoy assisting Anna Maude who runs our Brands of Tomorrow Programme, as it's so inspiring to listen in on their workshops and hear how they're growing their businesses. The Walpole team is amazing and I enjoy working with the wider team to help on the events we hold – especially the annual Walpole British Luxury Awards, which is such an incredible event to be a part of.

Quickfire questions:

The best place for a work breakfast in London is: Since we've moved into our new Walpole Townhouse, I'm now a big Piccolo Bar fan for a take-away breakfast – our local cafe on Sloane Street. Ottolenghi or Grainger & Co are great for breakfast meeting in our neighbourhood. Both are on the vibrant Pavilion Road, overseen by another Walpole member organisation, the Cadogan Estate.

My office beverage of choice is: A cup of JING's English Breakfast Tea from one of Richard Brendon's 'River' mugs.

The last thing I read or listened to on my commute was: Undoctored: The Story of a Medic Who Ran Out of Patients by Adam Kay.

The ultimate luxury under £25 is: A new book from my local book shop, Dulwich Books, in South London. The team is great at recommending a good read.
