Member Announcement Jonathan Akeroyd named new CEO of Burberry

Jonathan is currently CEO of Versace, and was previously CEO of Walpole member Alexander McQueen from 2004 to 2016, during which time he led a turnaround of the British luxury brand and laid the foundation for global expansion. He has also held a number of senior fashion roles at Walpole member Harrods.

“Marco Gobbetti’s elevation strategy for Britain’s most successful luxury fashion brand, putting Burberry on a par with Dior and Vuitton, has set a great line of travel for Burberry. His are big shoes to fill, but no one is more capable of unlocking Burberry’s potential as Mr Gobbetti’s successor than Jonathan Akeroyd – a dream appointment to the role. Akeroyd’s 12-year tenure at Alexander McQueen, and his recent work at Versace, which has experienced something of a renaissance in his care, suggests he is not only a strong leader but, crucially, one who has also proved adept at nurturing the best and most brilliant creative talent. His appointment promises great things.”
